I am beyond excited to be writing this post today. Thanks to Nina Planck herself I get to give three of you author-autographed copies of her book Real Food for Mother and Baby: The Fertility Diet, Eating for Two, and Baby's First Foods.
Excited? You should be. This book is amazing.
I first fell in love with author Nina Planck after reading her revolutionary book, Real Food: What to Eat and Why
. She is easy to relate to, honest, and her approach to food is simple and beautiful. Real Food for Mother and Baby is Planck's response to all the bad advice women get in America in regards to fertility, pregnancy and post-postpartum diets.
It is my belief that every woman should have a copy of this book in her personal library. I have literally bought this book five times. I can't keep it in my own collection because I keep thinking of people who need to read it!
How to eat to get pregnant. How to have a healthy pregnancy. How to survive those first few weeks postpartum. How to introduce first foods to baby. This book has it all. And more. (It was through this book I was first introduced to the idea of the "no-diaper" method that I have been using for Little Owl since her birth ).
This book is brilliant. It challenges conventional wisdom, but gives you an explanation and alternatives. It is full of researched information as well as Planck's honest, open personal experience. Writing about herself in third person she says:
But as they used to say on Reading Rainbow, "don't take my word for it". Get yourself a copy. Not pregnant? Enter this giveaway for a friend. As I mentioned before, it makes a wonderful gift.
I am beyond grateful to Nina Planck and her editor for being willing to sponsor this giveaway. There will be three lucky winners of author-autographed copies of Real Food for Mother and Baby. Good luck!
A baby born at home grows up on a farm. She watches chickens lay eggs and cats give birth. She dreams of having her own baby at home and quietly prepares. Publicly, she warns about the risks of cesareans. She has her baby by cesarean. She discovers firsthand what technology can do for mothers and babies and what it cannot. The woman is humbler. It is only the first lesson she will learn from her son. (138)I cried so many times reading this book when I was pregnant. And I have continued to think about it over these past seven months as I have been adjusting to new motherhood. Her section on breastfeeding (aptly titled "Very Soggy Indeed") was probably the most helpful thing I could have read before beginning my own breastfeeding adventures. Also, her approach to introducing solids greatly impacted my own thoughts on starting solids and generally simplified the whole process for me.
